6. Easter Island Timeline
First settlers arrived
Population grew with abundance of resources
Fishing in dug out canoes and catamarans.
Tribal rituals meant that different statues (Moai) were carved out which represented the dead ancestors of the islanders.
Population rose to 15,000 before resources run out.
Civil war broke out and tribes sought refuge in the lava tubes.
Population declined down to 2,000 and the last remaining islanders were able to live of the few crops that were left.
