Sarcophagus lid in the tomb of Lord Pacal from the Temple of the Inscriptions c. 683 CE Palenque, Mexico This image records Lord Pacal’s death and rebirth— “like the setting sun, Lord Pacal will rise again to rejoin the gods after falling into the underworld” (Stokstad, 460)…. sounds a little bit like the journey that Christ takes—he dies on Good Friday and is resurrected bodily on Easter … In this image Lord Pacal is balanced between the spirit world and earth.
