Peyrej @ ipno.in2p3.fr Orsay - October 2007IPNO-RDD-Jean Peyré8 Conclusion 1.Max air temperature reached at nominal airflow (2700 m 3 /h) for ST1/ST2: <30°C. This is fully acceptable 2.Max air temperature reached at maintenance airflow (1500 m3/h) for ST1/ST2: <36°C. The quadrants can operate with this airflow for several hours without any thermal damage 3.Max air temperature reached without cooling for ST1/ST2: >45°C. We have stopped the test after 45 minutes. Previous tests in Orsay (year 2000) showed that temperature between CH1/CH2 could easily reach 70°C or more after few hours without cooling. COOLING IS ABSOLUTLY NECESSERY FOR PROPER WIRE CHAMBERS WORK. 4.Air temperatures measured around Crocus boxes are 18°C on bottom and 23°C on top of the FASS 5.Temperatures and air speed measured at local points are fully compatible with F. Launay simulation (under beam pipe >3m/s and over it >1m/s) 6.Simulation made in Orsay describes correctly ST1/ST2 thermal environment (difference found of only 5°C) [38°C-20°C for simulation and 30°C-17°C for measurements]
