What is a flipped classroom? Reverses the traditional setup of notes in class and practice for homework At home: Students are watching, listening and writing down the notes for the lesson In class: Students are completing the practice problems, application, and projects.

Why a Flipped Classroom? less teacher centered, more student centered more one-on-one instruction in class parents can have access to lessons rewind and replay easier to differentiate more time for content easy for absent students to catch up students don't have to struggle with practice problems at home no loss of instruction when you have a substitute

Creating your flipped lessons 1.Create notes/lesson using presentation software 2.Record the lesson via screencast 3.Host the video on a learning management system (lms), website, or blog Tips when creating your lessons: - Make sure you have a way for students to provide evidence that they watched the video. - Keep it short and to the point - Show your personality - Don't be afraid to make mistakes and hear your own voice.

Challenges that may occur Students don't have internet access at home Students don't have a computer at home Hearing “My teacher doesn’t even teach me” Filters at school Lack of resources at school Students don't do their notes for homework Student watch, but don't listen to the notes Time - there is a lot of upfront work required Hearing your own voice... get over it
