10 LA inspection: Week 1 School inspections –How well does the LA understand the school’s strengths and weaknesses, its performance and the standards the pupils achieve? –What measures are in place to support and challenge the school and how well do these meet the needs of schools? –What is the impact of the LA’s support and challenge over time? Telephone surveys of schools and academies

11 LA inspection: Week 2 On-site inspection of the LA Data analysis of performance and inspection outcomes Strategies and broad range of documentation Face to face meetings to discuss the arrangements for supporting school improvement and their impact with: –Elected members –Senior operational staff –School based staff and governors –Other stakeholders

15 SEND Local Area SEN Inspections All Local Areas will be inspected over 5 years starting in May 2016 Inspection outcomes in schools will inform Ofsted’s preparation, as well as national data Fieldwork will include discussions with leaders from early years, schools and colleges Inspectors will look at children’s files and visit schools and providers. Narrative evaluation report, not an overall effectiveness grade Examples from pilots and Birmingham completing self- assessment and planning with partners

20 Update Health and Wellbeing Consultation: Over 3000 responses Next steps on model and commissioning strategy underway, new model Sept 2017 Early Education: Schools forum agreement to following: i)17p increase to PVI to support implementation of living wage ii)1.5% decrease to rate for nursery schools and schools with nursery classes in line with minimum funding guarantee iii)10% reduction to lump sum for nursery schools Consultation underway on full time place changes from Sept 2016 Next steps: Focus group: Sustainability from 2017 : Rates review, Full Time places 2017, sustainable models Steering group for DSG funded activity SEND across Early Years

21 Full Time Places - proposal Consensus from cross-sector Focus Groups that funded full-time places should be aligned to Right Service Right Time safeguarding priorities and identified education needs as assessed through EHCs 30 day consultation launched Feb 22 nd Cabinet report scheduled for April 18 th 2016 Providers able to offer full time EEE funded places from April 25 th 2016 in line with approved criteria
