30/March/2009SPD commissioning activities1 SPD status (1)Electronics tests (2)Control/clock cables problem (3)Plans Calo commissioning activities meeting – CERN 30th March 2009

30/March/2009SPD commissioning activities2 SPD tests Due to the TrigPGA problems on FE: –Whenever the SPD alone is reseted we lose 6 VFE –This problem affected the SPD scans (offset and mapping) due to the reset at each step command => remove reset (reset is not required) –Conclusion: At DAQ level, any SPD VFE reset => PS FE reset Other problems: –Some events are lost when using STEP command: under investigation –C-side CBs did not configure: solved 2 times. –BCID is not coherent at CB level With SPD VFE reset at each step Without reset 6 VFE

30/March/2009SPD commissioning activities3 Control/clock cables problem Ctrl/clk cables connector different from standard RJ45: PINSSignalColor 1SDA+white/green 2SDA-green 3SCL+white/orange 4SCL-orange 5MIERDA+white/blue 6MIERDA-blue 7CLK+white/brown 8CLK-brown Each pair is twisted different and has different lengths ⇒ each pair has different velocity of propagation As measured on correct cables: PairColorv (m/ns)v/c SDAGreen0.2060.683 SCLOrange0.2000.663 MIERDABlue0.2080.690 CLKbrown0.1970.651 C-side between PRS0 and SM1 bottom box bundle (serial number 13): -2 cables were measured with shortcut on 2008, but now OK -On 2009, 1 cable presents shortcuts on 3 of 4 pairs (SCL, MIERDA, and CLK) -Bundle original tray position O1-31

30/March/2009SPD commissioning activities4 Control/clock cables problem: measurements PairColorv (m/ns)d (ns)d prop (ns)l (m) SDAGreen0.20629914129,10 SCLOrange0.2001476513,08 MIERDABlue0.2081416213,02 CLKbrown0.1971516713,27 Correct cable (29m): PairColorv (m/ns)d (ns)d prop (ns)l (m) SDAGreen0.20629714028.90 SCLOrange0.2001478015.97 MIERDABlue0.2081417716.04 CLKbrown0.1971518216.12 PairColorv (m/ns)d (ns)d prop (ns)l (m) SDAGreen0.20629714028.90 SCLOrange0.20030614528.95 MIERDABlue0.20829413928.95 CLKbrown0.19731014728.90 Cable 133 (with shortcut) from crates: Cable 133 (with shortcut) from detector: d lemo d’=16ns d d

30/March/2009SPD commissioning activities5 Control/clock cables problem: conclusions Bundle on C-side, between PRS0 and SM1 bottom box, serial number 13. Which is the problem? Are the cables broken? –Intermitent effect. –1 cable still used: replace it by spare? Placement of the problem (inside the chain?): –Measured from crates 16.04 +/- 0.08 m –Measured from detector 13.12 +/- 0.13 m Is it possible to inspect the bundle at this position? Main concern: is this just one isolated case or may be other cables affected in the same way?

30/March/2009SPD commissioning activities6 SPD cosmics See Ricci’s talk.

30/March/2009SPD commissioning activities7 SPD plans Investigate the problems: –Wrong number of triggers for step command –BCID is not coherent at CB level (to check with Patrick) Continue offset measurements. Participate on cosmics runs.
