29 School Garden Grant Opportunities LOWE’S TOOLBOX FOR EDUCATION Funds available: $5,000/school Due: September, 2016 Annual Awards: $5 Million WHOLE KIDS FOUNDATION Funds available: $2,000/school Due: October, 2016 Awards in the last 5 years: 3,625 (about $7 million)

30 Grant Applications Narrative: Know your objectives Describe your needs Emphasize community partnerships Discuss plans for sustainability Budget: Be specific Estimate generously, but not excessively Think about how each item relates to the objectives of the garden Plan Ahead – Fall deadlines mean Spring planning

31 Things to Consider Grants: Apply for as many grants as you can find, for the same things, using some of the same language. Reporting requirements and spending limits. School Garden’s needs and objectives evolve as the parents and teachers involved in the garden change
