3 History Original bridges construction started in 1927 and was finished in 1929 Construction costed $390,000 During construction, worker Lane McDaniel died after falling 140 meters to the Colorado River below Supervisors rejected the idea of safety netting, believing it would catch on fire from falling hot rivets
