'France' - A theme for the Integrated Curriculum Theme of France allocated to Year 3 to supplement the children’s first experience of learning French. Planning web gave opportunities for integrating the theme of ‘France’ throughout the curriculum Key questions: What do you know about France? What do you want to find out? Responses informed planning and project work. Opportunities were planned for children to complete tasks on a planner

'France' - A theme for the Integrated Curriculum Areas of Learning and Planner Tasks Geographical features, position in Europe, holidaying in France (based on children’s experiences), regional areas of France and traditions Travel to France - designed travel brochures, researched times/ prices (resources from travel companies!) Paris as a capital city – famous landmarks, Paris fact file History of Eiffel tower and the construction by Gustave Eiffel Comparisons to own life/ experiences – schools, travel, food, leisure etc. Transcriptions of French art work e.g. Cezanne, silhouettes – researched French Art galleries and made our own. French Christmas!

'France' - A theme for the Integrated Curriculum ‘Extra Curricular’! Class 3’s French Lunch School kitchen provided the date and ‘suggested’ some French lunch ideas to the children. Involved in the process of arranging and advertising the meal to whole school – putting the meal choices on the menu, posters around school. Organised decorations for Eat Smart Café – French flags, bunting, table runners, ‘Bon Appétit’ posters and invitations for their parents to come. Decided on ‘dress code’ – red white and blue! A very helpful parent helper even made berets for whole class! Children were waiters and waitresses, serving food to infant children and parents.

Home Research Projects ‘What do you want to find out?’ – question at beginning of topic acted as basis for children’s research Children replied to a letter from me in which they outlined what they wanted to research for their project Could present project in any form using any media Projects included: Posters, booklets, PowerPoint presentations, models, collages, French dinners and even a French themed family meal!
