2 Who are we?  The City’s provider of school food  Working in full co-operative partnership with PAPH and schools  Primary schools  Secondary schools  Academies  250 staff  Adult community meals

3 What do we do? Education Act 1996 sets out the statutory requirement to: -  provide a free school meal to those pupils registered as eligible  provide a paid meal upon request to any pupil Education & Inspection Act 2006 (and amendments in 2007, 2008, 2009) sets out the mandatory Food & Nutritional Standards that must be applied to those meals for all maintained schools - with evidence of compliance available. 4 Where does our food come from? Our food contracts are currently being evaluated for award but for all our contracts we have to take into account a number of factors: -  Value of the business and EU law  Number and size of contracts  Food and fuel cost increases The way to achieve this was to write our specifications around the principles of the Soil Associations Food for Life Award

5 Where does our food come from?  Three local suppliers covering all requirements  All have a presence in Devon and Cornwall  Road miles and carbon footprint significantly reduced  Increased contract spend into Plymouth and surrounding area by up to £1.6m per annum  High quality local produce  Shared deliveries  Food costs per meal maintained  Meal numbers up
