1.  Minerva Elements Create a Publication

2. Steps Required  There are several different ways of adding publications.  Add a publication manually – And link yourself to the record.  Edit a ‘manual record’ – And link yourself to the record.  Import an Endnote or BibTeX file – The publication will be added to your claimed publications list.  Search for the publication in Symplectic – And link yourself to the record.

3. Click on the blue cross next to the type of publication you want to add. Add a Manual Publication Record

4. For Books and Book Chapters, use Assisted Entry to pre- populate fields from Google Books. Add a Manual Publication Record

5. Fill in all the fields relevant to the publication Add a Manual Publication Record Fields with a red asterisk * are compulsory fields. Enter all the authors listed on the publication Match the UoM authors by clicking on resolve Enter authors as Last Name, First Initial

6. Fill in all the fields relevant to the publication Add a Manual Publication Record Fields with a red asterisk * are compulsory fields. Enter the first few letters of the Publisher and choose from the drop down menu

A Note on Authors  Use the resolve function to match an author to a UoM staff or Student  It is not currently possible to provide institution details for external authors  Currently you just add last name and first initial  Resolving an author does not mean the author has claimed the publication as theirs

9. A Note On Publishers  Publishers have been Pre-loaded in Elements  Publishers ending with (Y) are commercial publishers  Publishers ending with (N) are non-commercial  If your publisher does not appear, you can enter it and it will be added to the pre-loaded file.

10. A Note On Journals  Journal titles have been Pre-loaded in Elements  Elements does not indicate if a journal is peer reviewed or not  Confirmation of peer review can be found here:  http://mro.unimelb.edu.au/published-journals http://mro.unimelb.edu.au/published-journals

11. A Note On Journals 2  If your journal does not appear in the drop-list you can still enter it as free text.  An exception report will pick up any journal titles not on the list  You may be requested to edit the record based on the exception report
