Comparing World War Two, The Vietnam War and Today We will compare the United States in a number of categories from World War Two to present. Daft-Length of Service-Avg age-the military itself-Culture at home and the current impact the Vietnam War has had on the United States today.

Military Draft World War Two: 1940 we started a draft of 21-36 year olds 1942 we began drafting 18-37 year olds “Conscientious Objectors” 75% of Quaker refuse to serve-had to perform service duty back home. No Gays 34 million registered-10 million Served

Vietnam 18 year old kids 2/3 were volunteers Lottery Most were from poor working class families and the Black Man Draft Dodgers-some went to Canada Other service departments to avoid combat.

Today No draft-it ended in 1973 18 year old males must register Volunteer military-$ Open to Gays

Length of Service World War Two: 4 year commitment-21 months in war zone. Vietnam: 4 year commitment-365 days in country Today-varies-most commitment are 6 years and many have had multiple tours in a war zone.

AVERAGE AGE World War Two- 26 years old Vietnam- 19 years old Today- 29 years old with 48% 21-30

BACK HOME World War Two: – General support of the war – Day light saving time-conserve energy – Support the Soldier-Civil Service pts – Rationing – Vietnam: – Protests-Civil Rights Movement-Anti-Gov-Gov anti-communists, spying on citizens-cultural revolution-spit on soldier and called them baby killers – Today: – Own opinion on wars but support troops.

MILITARY World War Two – In it to win it – Carpet Bombing – Vietnam – Piece meal-get SVA to fight-Helicopter-Napalm- Agent Orange – Today – All out US support-jets and smart bombs

VIETNAM WAR AND THE US TODAY We lost-learned that if we go to war we go with the full strength of US military. Counter Culture-freedom-no more blind trust of the Gov-no more draft-Voting age 18- Drinking age 18-19-21-Sex,drugs and rock en roll. Respect-honor-support our troops.
