6. Thesis: The Cold War effected American domestic policy by having the federal government spend a huge portion of the federal budget protecting the country from communism. American society also reflected the fears of being red and a possible Soviet attack at any moment. Body Paragraph #1- Domestic Issues: After WWII, the United States greatest concern was containing communism and preventing it from spreading at all costs. The Federal government spend money on a loyalty program to research the backgrounds of federal employees to determine if they had any “connection with the determination of disloyalty” (Doc 1). The purpose of this was to investigate and interrogate their employees to see if they had communist ties, which was very illegal any many ended up quitting or being fired. The federal government also created the House of Un-American Activities Committee whose goal was to search for Communist spies in the United States (Doc 2).
