1  Safe communication tools for students and teachers to correspond o

2 About 35 students in 3rd-5th grade participate in a book discussions and literature analysis that lead to more meaningful conversations and deeper understanding for these kids who love reading.

3  Create a blog and ask students to discuss their ideas to successfully implement the idea or subject.

4  Student lead discussion on the “Diary of Anne Frank”. ( Chelsea Kostyniak, Truman Middle School ).

8 To access Gaggle type www.gaggle.net

9 Your Login Name will be Firstname. Lastname@gpisd.gaggle.net Your Password will be GPISD2009(all uppercase letter)

10 Once you have logged on you will see your email screen. This is similar to your outlook mailbox. All your email tools are located above your inbox.

12 1. When you click on my contacts you will create a list of your classes to email. 2. Right click on “my group’s” and select “add new group.” Name it 1 st Period. Create a folder for each class.

13 When you right click on the My Folders Icon you get a new folder. Type the name of the new folder and left click in the white area and the folder will be created Now you have your groups named you can add students to your classes. Double click on the class you want to enter students.

14 Click on “Add Contact.”

15 You must type students First Name, Last Name, and Email address.

17 Once you have entered the first name, last name, and email address click “save.”

18 2. You will now see your new entry in your list. You will also see information on the user at the right hand side of your list. 1. Click on “add contact” for each member of your class.

20 To add your user groups click on “Student Admin” and then “users list.”

21 1. Once you have opened your user list you will want to narrow down the number of students you can view. To narrow the field click on “view”, then “graduation year”, then select the year your class will graduate.

22 You should now see the students you need for your classes.

23 Now click on the “user groups” tab.

24 2. In this area you will see user groups that you have created. You should not have anything in this area now. 1. Click on the “new group” Tab.

25 Click on the “user groups” Tab.

26 Once you have click on “new group” you will see a folder with the words new group. Just type in the name you want to call your group. I am naming mine 2 nd Period

27 1. Once you have named your group just click some place in the white area and your group will be created. 2. To populate your group folder you can drag and drop students into the folder one at a time or you can hold down the Ctrl key and highlight the students you want to move.

28 Once you have selected several students move your mouse over the folder as you can see I am about to drop 3 students into my 2 nd period folder.

29 When you click on the “+” sign by the folder you will see I have three students in my folder. Continue the process until you have a folder for each class and all your students are in the correct folder.

31 Click on “edit homework drop boxes.”

32 1. Enter the name of your drop box and use the pull down menu to find your name. 2. Make sure under access it is on specified users. 3. Then click “save”.

33 1. After you click save you will see your drop box. 2. Now you are going to select the classes you want to view this drop box.

34 1. Once you have clicked on the group you want to add. 2. Then click “add selected groups”.

35 Click “ok.”

36 1. Now you have your drop box named and your groups assigned you can now add assignments. 2. Click on the “jump to menu” and select “homework drop boxes.”

37 Now double click on your class.

38 Now you can add an assignment. Click on “add assignment folder.”

39 1. Type your subject or name of your assignment. 2. Now you can type your assignment in the following space.

40 1. You have all the tools you need to edit your text. 3. Once you have typed all your assignment instructions you can click “submit.” 2. You can attach articles for students to read.

41 Select “ok.”

42 1. Now you have created your assignment you can reply to comments made by students or add additional comments. 2. You can reply to comments by clicking the reply button.

43 1. Type your comment here. 2. Click “submit” when you have finished your comment.

44 Once you have submitted your reply you can see it on the screen. Just double click on it to open.

46 Each student and teacher has a digital locker. To access the digital locker click on the “jump to menu” and select “digital locker”

47 You can store files and documents in your digital locker To add a document to your folder click on “add folder”.

48 Now select the folder or document you want to add to your digital locker. I have a folder called assignments.

49 Now click on the “document name” and click open.

50 Once “open” is clicked the file is added to the digital locker.

52 To create a message board click on the “jump to menu”, then the “message board” menu, and “edit meg boards”.

53 1.To create your message board select a name for your message board. 2. Select “ specified users”. 3.Select “save new board”.

54 When you have Selected “save new board “ you will see.

55 Now select the groups you want to view this message.

56 Highlight the names of the groups and select “add selected groups”.

57 Click on “ok”.

58 To add and view comments double click on “message name”.

59 Now click on “new post”.

60 Type your message and select “Submit”.

61 Click “ok”.

62 Your message is now complete.

64 To create a Blog click on “jump to menu” and then “my blog”.

65 If you have not created a blog you will get the following page. Click the “here” to create your blog.

66 Enter blog name, select a color scheme, click on “update”. All other setting are default. Then select “update”. So students can view your blog on line you will need to create a Blog URL ID. This ID will be http://www.gaggle.net/blogs/user id # You will find this number under my account on the home page. So the URL ID for training teachers is http://www.gaggle.net/blogs/10487110 http://www.gaggle.net/blogs/user

67 Create a title for your blog entry. Type your text. Click on “submit new blog entry”.

68 Now you have created your blog. Students can now http://www.gaggle.net/blog/httpwwwgagglenetblogs10 487110 Your blog address is located at the top of the blog. Include this in messages and emails about your blog. To add or reply to comments click on ”comments”.

69 Type your comment. Click on “submit comment”.

70 You can see that you have 1 comment.

75  Students interact with teacher and peers.  Parents can view students work.  Campus/District thematic units.  Blogging about real world problems and finding real world solutions.  Finally able to say “this is why you need to know” Math, English, Science, or History.

76  On the table you will find an example of Gaggle curriculum ideas.  Review the ideas.  Think of the possibilities they have in your class.  Now follow the steps in the following slides and share your ideas with your peers.
