Introduction to PLM @ ESS Systems used ESS is using Dassault Systèmes Enovia PLM platform (V6 R2013x) Catia V6 for mechanical CAD E-Plan for electrical design Autodesk Revit for Conventional Facilities design coordination Other tools in specific domains
4
CHESS CHESS means Collaboration Home @ ESS, which can be translated into EDMS or other abbreviations with similar meanings. Today, CHESS consists of a PLM platform with fully integrated tools together with integrated (at different levels) stand-alone tools, databases and applications. The backbone of CHESS is the PLM platform Enovia V6 where almost any data management task can be performed if we want to…. but configuration to ESS needs is naturally needed. 4 Introduction to PLM @ ESS
5
Supported functionality Document management and controlled workflows. Configuration control of controlled items. Library central. Part request & Naming database for CF. CF tools and documentations integrated into same Enovia Database as mechanical design – single point of truth for all design data. Engineering change management ECO, BOM & parts management is beeing rolled out now. Standard parts and part types management, is in production environment.
6
Introduction to PLM @ ESS Accessibility All collaborators can connect to the PLM platform. User registration in ESS active directory is needed. This is a requirement as much from ESSQMS as from the PLM platform. Access-rights can be controlled individualy or role based, both for working at ESS in Lund and for the IKC, depending on project participation and the need to protect IP’s etc. Project portal with documents publication on AccESS project portal site in development. This will give access to published documentation without a CHESS login.
7
Introduction to PLM @ ESS Ongoing activities PLM System upgrade to Enovia V6 2014x, Jan -15. PBS proof of concept managing instances, Dec -15. Improvements to document management following ESS QMS. Support for Collaboration working on design data for ESS.
8
Introduction to PLM @ ESS Future & Plans Standard Parts mgmt. version 2 Requirements connection. Reporting tools. Engineering 2.0 Investigation on MRO system integrations needs.

Proof of concept - PBS INSIDE Enovia-supporting unique instances PBS Break-down structure of ESS facility/plant (systems of systems) The structure lives through the ESS Life- cycle Central point for users dealing with design, procurement, manufacturing, QA/QC control, commissioning, operation etc Different views on data depending on role The structure and its data is handed over to operation after commissioning The structure is uniquely identified with an ESS common naming structure
11
Can ESS PLM be used for Travellers? CHESS is highly adaptable to different needs within the ESS organisation, examples of existing adaptations are; File upload automation and parts requests for CF Contract management for legal departement Change order modifications for Engineering design process, etc
12
Should ESS PLM be used for Travellers? -Key to good system adaptations is good requirements in good time. Are we ready after this workshop to set requirements for travellers? After requirements, there should be an evaluation; What are the needs for integration in case of selection of a solution outside the PLM platform? etc. Is there an existing cheaper/better sollution available? Is there a similar need in other parts of the ESS project?
13
Requirements for Travellers? Revision control ”Container” for design/test data etc. Reporting Specific item type? Access needs? Connection to information consumers; procurement, installation, commissioning, operations etc.
