2 Starter Task: (5 mins) In pairs discuss and create a list of the things that: 1. Cause workers dissatisfaction at work ◦ Things that make them fed up or stop them wanting to work 2. Cause workers satisfaction (to enjoy work) ◦ Help workers enjoy work & make them wan to work harder

3 Motivation Theory: Herzberg’s Two Factor Theory Herzberg identified two factors involved in a worker being motivated: Hygiene or Maintenance Factors And Motivators

4 Hygiene Factors These need to be in place to allow us to become motivated but do not actually motivate us. For example: working conditions (light, temperature, facilities), fair pay, good relationships If these are not present they will cause dissatisfaction and prevent us from being able to be motivated Would you want to work in a cramped factory like this? Would this cause you dissatisfaction?

5 Motivators These are the things that will actually motivate workers to want to do their job and to work harder. They tend to be things that give us personal satisfaction such as recognition in the work place & social activities & achievement Would a certificate of achievement motivate you? Is recognition of your hard work important to you? Would a certificate of achievement motivate you? Is recognition of your hard work important to you?
