Timeline of the 2005 Convention The Convention was adopted in 2005 following the international communities push for implementation of international law to recognise, protect and promote the performing arts, music, cinema, contemporary art and other forms of creativity.

Flows of Cultural Goods & Services ‘’Within the framework of South- South cooperation, the levels of trade among developing countries have increased. But provisions relating to specific preferential treatment measures for cultural goods and services in such free trade agreements remain rare. Evidence shows that new policies in trade exchanges, whether at individual, institutional or industry levels, can help achieve a more balanced flow of cultural goods and services.’’

Report Recommendations Expanding policy and legislative scope of the 2005 Convention to meet new demands While progress has been made, there is still a long way to go before a balance in the flow of goods is achieved Putting Culture at the heart of Sustainable Development is key in building peaceful and sustainable societies Better & continued support for artists where freedom of expression is at stake. HOW TO PRODUCE GMR? 2005 Convention Secretariat is responsible for the overall coordination Editorial board is established composed of authors chosen to write articles Authors are to analyze not only periodic reports submitted by Parties but also other sources (academic research, contribution from civil society) Knowledge management system (KMS) is to be developed to facilitate data collection/collation and analysis and information sharing Analytical framework and indicators for the monitoring of the Convention implementation are to be developed
