ANIMAL PROTECTION RELATED TO ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION 2010-1-DE3-COM06-11105-6

Protection of animals is mostly related to the protection of environment

Humans can do something for them *by breeding more animals, *by saving their environment, *by helping sick animals to get better and healthy

Nowadays people build homes, offices and factories, big shopping centers, cafes and restaurants and DESTROYS THE LAND… Animals once were living there..And so there İs not enough food and water for them and they die…

Chemicals used for for crops to save them from pests, the chemicals get into the water and the soil. Bugs that do not hurt the crops die. The birds and mammals who eat these bugs may also die or can not reproduce, or their offspring die young. 6 And also the exhaust of factories, automobiles, trucks, planes….. These chemicals fall on the ground, plants and into the water. Then they get get into the animals when they drink water, eat the plants and nest in the ground. These animals, too can die or reproduce!!

Imprisoned in “amusement” parks, whales and dolphins have injured and killed themselves, sometimes deliberately ramming their bodies into the sides of their concrete tanks. 8 Thousands of greyhounds are killed each year as the declining dog-racing industry struggles to stay alive. Some puppies are killed in the name of "selective breeding" before they ever touch a racetrack. Animals used in television and film are often brutally beaten to force them to perform. Bullfighting is the torture, mutilation, and slaughter of animals for entertainment. 9 PETS Pets People buy and catch animals to keep as pets. Many of the people who have animals as pets do not know how to care for them. Pets, particularly ones like reptiles, amphibians, and fish, need special equipment, heat, lights, and food in order for them to be healthy and live. Between 50-90 percent of these types of animals sold each year dies because they were not cared for properly. Pets People buy and catch animals to keep as pets. 10 Animals are EXPLOITED & KILLED ANIMALS EXPLOITED FOR ENTERTAINMENT. Wild animals, such as elephants, tigers, bears, lions, and zebras, live in chains or small, dark cages for ninety-five percent of their lives. Circus animals are forced to travel in box cars or trucks for months at a time with no regard for temperature, exercise or normal interaction with their own kind. 11 ANIMALS KILLED FOR FOOD ANIMALS KILLED FOR FOOD ANIMALS KILLED FOR SPORT/FASHION ANIMALS KILLED FOR SPORT/FASHION ANIMALS ARE KILLED DURING TRANSPORTATION ANIMALS ARE KILLED DURING TRANSPORTATION Packed into trucks for up to four days, without food, water or rest, many animals die from thirst, heat stroke, injury from other frightened animals, or may become frozen to the sides of trucks or to other animals.. There are two more reasons to eliminate factory farming: human health and the environment. 12 It is also important to note that non-human animals are also a part of nature, and so, to kill or harm them is to harm nature itself. Thousands of non-human animals have become extinct, many of whom due to human abuse, either by directly killing them or by destroying their habitat. If, for example, rainforests are cleared, apart from the harm done to our eco-system, this will mean sure death to thousands of non-human animals, large or small, who dwell in the forests. 13 Another important factor, which harms both non- human animals and the environment, is the mass breeding of animals for human consumption. It is scientifically proven that methane-emitting animals killed for food are a major contributor to the 'greenhouse effect' and global warming. Also, ammonia from animal waste and agricultural fertilizers, contribute to acid rain, which in turn kills aquatic and plant life. "Animal farming" also makes inefficient use of very limited resources. Millions of people are suffering hunger and thirst in the developing world, while grain and water is squandered on breeding and rearing non-human animals who are destined to be killed for food in the developed world. 14 Oil spills, hazardous waste and litter are also major contributors to the killing of several non- human animals. Oil spills kill millions of fish and endanger several other animals like birds who live near the sea. Most of the animals that are literally covered in oil after an oil spill will die unless they are saved by human intervention. Also, waste and litter people dispose of unproperly could kill non-human animals in different ways. Plastic thrown in the sea will suffocate fish. Sharp objects (like empty tin cans) could kill stray animals or wildlife. Toxic and poisonous fluids and materials will obviously also kill if not disposed of properly. The burning of rubber or plastic will create toxic fumes harmful to both humans and other animals, and so on. 15 Hunting, apart from being a direct animal killer, is also a contributor to human ill health, because of the poisonous lead content that is shot, and which could also end up in vegetable farms, the product of which we will finally be eating. Also, the hunting of migratory birds, apart from directly killing the birds themselves, if done indiscriminately, would have adverse effects on breeding, and thus pose a danger to the continuance of the species. 16 To conclude, it is thus clear that any discussion on the environment would be incomplete if it is not taken even in context of animal rights issues, since non-human animals are interlinked in the web of nature, where a missing link could have devastating effects.
