4 Rome commits to a policy of imperialism. Confronts and defeats “heirs of Alexander the Great in the east Macedonia, Egypt, Greece, Asia Minor, Syria annexed

5 - Civil wars : due to conquests, generals begin to compete for spoils and supreme power imperium. - Enter Julius Caesar- Eventual overthrow of the Republic. - Slave labor increases due to conquests, and prisoners. This hurts farmers. Also, slaves become a threat. - Many from the country come to Rome for work. Chaos in the city. However spoil taken during wars have made the city very rich! Power!
