Culture- is the way of life of a group of people who share similar beliefs and customs. Geographer, anthropologist, and archeologist all study culture Geographers study physical objects such as food and housing Anthropologist study religion, social groups, and government Archaeologist use physical and historical objects of a culture to understand how people live

Social groups can by many things Male, Female, Student, Worker, In all cultures family is the most important social group although family structure vary. Ethnic Group- a group that shares a language, history, religion, and some physical traits. Dialect- Is a local form of a language that may have a distinctive vocabulary pronunciation. Ex. Southern “Ya’ll” There are more than 2,000 languages spoken

Religion plays a major role in most cultures Hundreds of religions are practiced but there are only 5 major religions Christianity-Jesus Christ- 2.1 Billion Buddhism-Leader- Buddha 378.8 million Hinduism- Unknown-860.1 Million Islam- Muhammad- 1.3 Billion Judaism- Abraham- 15.1 Million

Food, clothing, shelter are human needs and many cultures have different types Chopsticks, fork, and bread can all be used as utensils Warm weather, Cold weather, humid, dry Climates will determine how people dress and what they wear Religion too will play a role in dress

People need rules in order to live and government provides this Limited or Unlimited Government Limited restricts the powers of leaders Democracy- power is held by the people (what we have) Representative democracy – the people choose Unlimited means the leader has all power Dictatorship- the leader or dictator rules by force Monarchy- government is led by a king or queen and they inherit the power

Civilizations- highly developed cultures Early civilizations stared in river valleys around present day Iraq, Egypt, India, and China They built cities, forming of governments, developed writing systems and founded different religions. Cultural Diffusion- process of spreading ideas, languages, or customs from one culture to another. Movement of people from one place to another leads to cultural diffusion. Today TV, movies, and the internet have contributed to Cultural Diffusion

Culture Region – an area that includes different countries that share similar cultural traits. Globalization – development of worldwide culture with an interdependent economy. Many countries working together to grow their economies.
