History Originally made by Android Inc. Originally backed by Google then bought in 2005 First Android phone came out in 2008 HTC Dream AKA “G1” Ran Android 1.0 First real competitor to iPhone Had 192Mb RAM and 528 MHz Processor Users have successfully installed 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” on it which was release 3 years later in 2011

History Version 2.2 “Froyo” First major Android release, which really put android on the map as a competitor to iPhones Featured voice input which allows user to input text and searches Was the most stable version of Android at the time

Android Versions 1.5 “Cupcake” – First release to have a codename 1.6 “Donut“ 2.0 “Éclair “ 2.2 “Froyo“ 2.3 “Gingerbread“ 3.0 “Honeycomb“ – Tablet only version 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich“ 4.1 “Jelly Bean“ – Current version – fixes frame rate at 60 fps to create “buttery smooth” UI 4.4 “KitKat“

Technical Specs Linux based Operating System Programmed with C, C++ and Java Supported on ARM, MIPS, and x86 processors Source code is free and open-source and available to anyone

Technical Specs RAM is managed through Android which allows unused programs to not use any processing or battery power Applications are run in a “sandbox” An isolated area where it doesn’t have access to any of the systems resources unless granted when installed Greatly improves on security since not all apps are regulated by Google

Future of Android Android 4.4 is upcoming version codenamed “KitKat” Rumored to have an iMessage-like app that is able to send messages over internet instead of cell towers Rumored to run on devices with as little as 512 MB of RAM Newest phones have 2Gb or more of RAM No release data but sources say as soon as the end of the month According to Google there has been over 1 billion Android phones activated
