Technical Specs  Linux based Operating System  Programmed with C, C++ and Java  Supported on ARM, MIPS, and x86 processors  Source code is free and open-source and available to anyone

Technical Specs  RAM is managed through Android which allows unused programs to not use any processing or battery power  Applications are run in a “sandbox”  An isolated area where it doesn’t have access to any of the systems resources unless granted when installed  Greatly improves on security since not all apps are regulated by Google

Android System Architecture

New Versions  Current version is 4.3 “Jelly Bean”  Can support up to 4k resolution screen  Features Google Now which is an “intelligent personal assistant”  Answers questions, search the web, navigate, and see sports teams scores all using voice recognition  Direct competitor with Apples’ Siri  It is however available on iOS  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPqliPzHYyc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPqliPzHYyc  Supports OpenGL 3.0 for increased graphics capability

Future of Android  Android 4.4 is upcoming version codenamed “KitKat”  Rumored to have an iMessage-like app that is able to send messages over internet instead of cell towers  Rumored to run on devices with as little as 512 MB of RAM  Newest phones have 2Gb or more of RAM  No release data but sources say as soon as the end of the month  According to Google there has been over 1 billion Android phones activated
