Volume is the number of cubic units needed to fill a space. What is volume?
4
It takes 10, or 5 · 2, centimeter cubes to cover the bottom layer of this rectangular prism. There are 3 layers of 10 cubes each to fill the prism. It takes 30, or 5 · 2 · 3, cubes. Volume is expressed in cubic units, so the volume of the prism is 5 cm · 2 cm · 3 cm = 30 cm 3. Volume
5
To find the volume of any prism, you can use the formula V= Bh, where B is the area of the base, and h is the prism’s height.
6
Rectangular Prism V= length x width x height V = lwh
7
Find the volume of the rectangular prism. V = lwh V = 29 12 16 V = 5,568 in 3 16 in. 29 in. 12 in.
8
Triangular Prism V = Bh base of the triangle (A=½bh) Height V = ½bh x H
9
Find the volume of each triangular prism. V = Bh V = ( 3.9 1.3) 4 1 2 __ V = 10.14 m 3
10
Find the volume of the triangular prism. V = Bh V = ( 6.5 7) 6 1 2 __ V = 136.5 ft 3
11
Find the volume of each triangular prism. V = Bh V = ( 4.1 3.1) 6 1 2 __ V = 38.13 cm 3
12
To find the volume of a cylinder, you can use the same method as you did for prisms: Multiply the area of the base by the height. volume of a cylinder = area of base height The area of the circular base is r 2, so the formula is V = Bh = r 2 h. Volume of Cylinders
13
Cylinder V = Bh pi (3.14) x radius² height V = П r² h
14
Find the volume V of the cylinder to the nearest cubic unit. Replace with 3.14, r with 4, and h with 7. V 351.68 V = r 2 h V 3.14 4 2 7 The volume is about 352 ft 3.
15
Volume of a Cylinder V 863.5 V = r 2 h V 3.14 5 2 11 The volume is about 864 cm 3.
16
Volume of a Cyclinder V 301.44 The volume is about 301 cm 3. 8 cm 6 cm V = r 2 h V 3.14 4 2 6
