1 The Treaty of Versailles – June 28, 1919 German Territorial Losses: a) Alsace-Lorraine (given to France); b) Eupen and Malmedy (given to Belgium); c) Northern Schleswig (given to Denmark); d) Hultschin (given to Czechoslovakia); e) West Prussia, Posen and Upper Silesia (given to Poland); f) The Saar, Danzig and Memel were put under the control of the League of Nations and the people of these regions would be allowed to vote to stay in Germany or not in a future referendum; g) Germany's overseas colonies also were put under the control of the League of Nations; h) Germany had to return to Russia land taken in the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. Some of this land was made into new states: Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. An enlarged Poland also received some of this land.

4 Europe after the World War I Italy - The “Mutilated Victory” a) 600,000 soldiers killed; b) Trentino, Trieste and Southern Tyrol given to Italy, Fiume and Dalmatia not; c) Procommunist (officially Socialist) Movement in Italy; d) Rise of Fascist Movement – Benito Mussolini il Duce; e) Mussolinis coming to power;

5 The USA after the World War I a) Rise of Isolationism; b) The Statute of the League of Nations rejected in the Congress. The USA who was the main inspirer of the foundation of the League of Nations steps aside and does not become its member; c) The Golden Age and the Great Depression; d) Roosevelt becomes a President.
