Timing Is Everything We speak at a rate of 150-200 words per minute. You don’t have to put EVERYTHING in your talk. How much time do you really have? Don’t waste a lot of time playing with PowerPoint or the internet before you have developed your message! Remember what life was like before you had these toys!

How Do You Know if the Audience Is Getting It? If the audience doesn’t get it, it’s not the audience’s fault. Know your evaluation criteria upfront. If it’s a contest, study a copy of the ballot. If it’s a workshop, get a copy of the workshop evaluation.
