TestNav 7.5 TestNav™ 7.5 is a “zero-footprint” browser-based test delivery system that requires no download or installation by our customers. TestNav 7.5 lowers the labor required to implement and maintain the test delivery system. TestNav installs its components when the student launches it to take a test, and removes its components once the test is over. TestNav 7.5 is cross-platform: compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems. Students log in by means of “authorization tickets” that provide one-time access to specific tests. 6 Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.6

System Check for TestNav System Check helps district and school technology personnel better assess the overall “readiness” of their local network for online testing. 10 Measures network user capacity – Complete prior 1 month for each testing network Checks 3rd party software and screen resolution – Complete on all testing machines at least 1 month prior to testing Calculates testing volume Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.10
11
TestNav Proctor Caching Proctor caching is Pearson-supplied software that is used in conjunction with TestNav to reduce bandwidth requirements for school or district networks and accelerate the delivery of test content. Proctor Caching enhances the performance of existing technology in schools. No additional hardware is required. Districts are required to utilize Proctor Caching. Districts who fail to proctor cache will place their schools and students at risk of technology failure during the test administration. This may impact schools ability to complete testing within the district’s approved time schedule. 11 Test content is served from a local computer instead of traveling from Pearson over the Internet. Proctor Caching enables smooth delivery of large numbers of student tests — even in a low- bandwidth network environment. Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. 12
Benefit of Proctor Caching When properly used, caching or proxy solutions can reduce the load of data traffic that online assessments place on the network capacity When testing begins, multiple streams of identical, redundant data can clog up and overwhelm the system or school network Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.12
13
Early Warning System TestNav is designed to tolerate interruptions in Internet service and to safeguard against lost or inaccurate student response data. The Early Warning System (EWS) is integrated functionality that gives TestNav a high degree of fault tolerance and provides additional fail-safes in the event of unexpected network disruptions during online testing. 13 Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. 14
Best Practices and Recommendations Performance: Use Proctor Caching for best network performance. Use System Check extensively to test Proctor Caching and network environment before live testing. Use System Check to test wireless network capacity if using wireless clients. Testing Computers: Use System Check to validate that testing machines meet minimum requirements. Freeze browser, Adobe Flash Player, & Java environment if possible. Energy Saving features can interrupt testing, so the recommendation is to set those to not trigger during the length of the test. 14 Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. 15
Best Practices and Recommendations Testing Computers: -Prevent applications that launch automatically Any applications that may automatically launch on a computer should be configured not to launch during testing sessions. Common applications that may launch automatically include: – Anti-virus software performing automatic updates – Power management software on laptops warning of low batteries – Screen Savers – Email with Auto message notification 15 Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. Accommodations Guidelines Important information for assigning test sessions for students requiring accommodations. Students who will be assigned an accommodation online session include students who will take a test using a paper copy (Braille, Large Print, and IEP or 504 Plans needs) and students who require Read-Aloud accommodations. If the students require read-aloud accommodations, the administrator will use the paper copy of the test to read to the students. Note: Read-Aloud Accommodations- The Test Administrator must use a paper copy of the test in order to provide this accommodation for MST2 and SATP2 testers who will use TestNav version 7.5. This is different from PARCC using TestNav version 8.0. Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.31
32
Accommodations Guidelines All students in the computer lab during the Read-aloud session must have the same Read- aloud accommodation on their IEP. To match the paper form to the online form, the students must be placed in the “Accommodation” Default Form Group Type when they are assigned a test session in PearsonAccess.
