Arenas Sur Road Safety Awareness Project Your Ideas Your Initiatives 2015/16
2
Thought Provoking Photo Exhibition on Road Safety
3
“Sometimes a simple action can decide between life and death. Don’t wait to put your seat belt on, it could be too late” These are samples of the posters we made.
4
“There is no use being beautiful if you are risking your life for it”
5
“Everything happens for a reason. Everything has an objective. If there are helmets, they are there to be used; if there are bicycle lanes, they are meant to be ridden on. You can give a meaning to all this. Use them”
6
“Children are our future generation. If we do not look after them, what will happen to our future?”
7
“We spend our lives running in order to not waste time. However, what we do not realise is that what we we are wasting are our lives”
8
“We are so immersed in doing many things at the same time, that we don’t enjoy each individual moment. This search for making the most of time could have severe consequences. Everything we do today, determines if we have a tomorrow”
9
“Have we really become beings that depend to such an extent on technology?”
10
“Mixing what we have under control with what escapes our control can’t bring about anything good. What are three euros worth of bus fare in comparison to a whole life?” “If you drink, don’t drive”

Awareness Raising Presentations on Road Safety
12
We created a Power Point Presentation to raise the awareness about Road Safety. It includes 29 slides and deals with types of safety, good practice rules, traffic signs, things to think about if you are a novel or young driver, suggestions, importance of the seat belt, infomation on the risk groups for accidents, the cost of accidents, statistics and use of mobile phones. What follows is a taster… We created a Power Point Presentation to raise the awareness about Road Safety. Pretend Driving Circuit
18
We started with a presentation… As there are many students in 6th Primary, we divided them into groups and each one of us was responsible for each group. We sat them down for the introduction briefing and explained about road safety rules and the most frequent traffic signs you find in our area.
19
Then we gave them a cardboard driving wheel to simulate the experience further…
20
Once equipped, we went for a drive on our previously prepared roads, with traffic signs
22
Painted Road Safety Mural
23
First we grouped them together around a large, previously covered, cardboard We set up the traffic signs around the assembly hall
24
We explained about the meaning of the signs…
25
And then got them painting…
26
Our suggestions for a Safer Access to School
27
After analyzing the access to our school, and observing how cars, bicycles and pedestrians interact… …we came up with some suggestions for improvement. Explained on the next slide
28
We suggest that we should: -Have pedestrian crossings painted in safe places -- build a pavement to walk on beside the access road -- renew the traffic signs as they are in the wrong places -- improve the procesures and rules for parking -- the delively trucks that bring fruit and vegetables etc for the kitchen, should have a separate place to park to unload -- there should be a legible sign with rules for stopping and parking -- a newsletter should be sent out to parents about the rules and regulations for parking and stopping during arrival and departure -- it should be prohibited to sound the claxon in the school car park -- all teachers should respect the Teachers’ parking area -There should be clear signs for which direction cars can circulate -The area where you can change direction or turn your car should have clear signs -All users of the school car park should park according to the lines indicating the parking space
29
We feel that our project was very worthwhile and that the activities worked very well
