7 Lasswade Does Strictly 2016! This year’s dance show will take place on Wednesday 23 rd March 7.00pm – 9.00pm Tickets are £5 adults, £3 concessions And can be bought from Miss Murray (PE) or Miss McGuire (SFL)

8 Performers in the Dance Show Rehearsals will take place in the PE department periods 6 and 7 next Wednesday. There will be a full dress rehearsal after school so remember all your costumes, hair stuff, make-up etc. Music should be on a CD or iPod – if anyone has an issue with music please come and see Miss McGuire by the end of the day on Monday 21 st at the latest.

9 Apprentice Mechanic Edinburgh As an apprentice you will be employed from the start of your training, allowing you to earn a wage whilst you learn new skills and gain a qualification. You will be working towards a recognised qualification, skilled employment and greater career prospects. Your training will take place at your workplace and at one of GTG Training’s centres. Our mechanic apprentices are based within a mechanical workshop and will be involved in learning about service and repair of vehicles including removal and replacement of major components such as engines and gearboxes. GTG Training provides students with the best learning environment to develop skills, together with full time employment opportunities to help develop skills further. Regular assessments and reviews will ensure apprentices achieve the required skills to successfully complete their modern apprenticeship. 10 Apprentice Spray Painter Edinburgh As an apprentice you will be employed from the start of your training, allowing you to earn a wage whilst you learn new skills and gain a qualification. Your training will take place at your workplace in Edinburgh and GTG Training’s Glasgow centre, where you will be based within the paintshop and will learn all aspects of preparing a vehicles surface for masking, priming and painting before buffing and polishing the paintwork of the panel to a suitable finish. On successful completion of your apprenticeship you will have gained a Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Paintwork and Repair. 14 Apprentice Revit Technician Cundall Engineering This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a keen interest in construction design to join our team at our office in central Edinburgh. Here, as our Apprentice Technician you will learn how to produce Revit models & CAD drawings for all stages of construction design, helping us produce effective and award-winning design solutions on some of the most exciting building projects in Scotland and around the world. Providing valuable support to our established team of expert engineers and CAD/Revit technicians, and working alongside colleagues of various engineering disciplines, you will assist the production of detailed 2D CAD general assemblies, and will learn to produce 3D BIM models using Revit. This is an apprenticeship, and as such you will be required to attend college on a day-release basis where you will undertake the study of a relevant HNC/HND. Requirements Educated to National 4 or above in English and Maths, during your studies and/or work experience to date you have developed a keen interest in computer aided design and construction. 16 Apprentice Floor Layer Advanced Floor Coverings Bonnyrigg We are currently looking for someone to fill the role of Apprentice Floor Layer. The successful candidate will learn many aspects of the flooring industry such as; sub floor preparation (screed/plywood), luxury vinyl tiles (Amtico, Karndean), carpet, vinyl, laminate/engineered and solid wood. The majority of training will be provided 'on-site', however, the chance to attend product based training courses will be available as well as working towards an NVQ level 2 in floor coverings. Applicants must be presentable, have strong communication abilities (verbal, written and listening skills) and confidence in dealing with customers on a face to face basis. They should be physically fit, healthy and enjoy manual work with the ability to learn and perform practical skills efficiently. National 4 Maths and English or equivalent is essential. Edinburgh Castle is Scotland’s most popular paid visitor attraction, welcoming around 1.5 million visitors annually. Modern Apprentices are required in the three areas in the castle, tasks will include: Admissions Provide a world class welcome and direct visitors as appropriate upon their arrival at Edinburgh Castle, sell appropriate tickets and products to all walk up visitors, and ensure all vehicles entering the castle and parking on the esplanade have the appropriate approval Guiding Welcome and assist visitors on their way around the castle, work on both indoor and outdoor posts throughout the castle, oversee the security, and cleanliness and tidiness of the various apartments throughout opening hours Retail Carry out the daily operational duties of the shop as requested by the supervisor or retail management, maximise trading income through selling and upselling appropriate merchandise, process sales, whilst ensuring that all financial procedures are adhered to and carried out accurately and efficiently, and ensure that high standards of shop hygiene and housekeeping are maintained at all times The Modern Apprentices will spend the first three months in all three areas taking part in a thorough and detailed induction of the castle, after which they will each be placed in one area where they will stay for the remainder of the contract unless stated otherwise. 18 ScottishPower – Engineering Foundation Student Programme Scottish Power is currently recruiting for its Engineering Foundation Student Programme. Training is primarily based at Edinburgh College, Midlothian. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to spend an academic year, starting in August 2016, working towards an electrical engineering qualification at SCQF Level 5 and also get 5 weeks of technical training delivered by ScottishPower. On completion of the course you can apply or will be considered for an apprenticeship with ScottishPower. In past years, many of the students, who were not taken on by ScottishPower, have also been successful in moving on to apprenticeships with other employers, based on the training they have gained from this course.
