App Store Enablement - Goals and Metrics
Customer Goals – Where you want to be? To enable self service automatic deployment of software for those software items that are auto deployable/enabled through IBM Bigfix for install. To ensure easy and accessible site for end users to locate software and place request for install against assets assigned to them. Measure for success – How you know you made it? Catalog (offerings) for software are easily accessed by end users through IBM Control Desk self service center. Zero requests in ticket system 2 months after go live; asking “Where do I get X software for install?” Zero install failures of software requested through the App Store in IBM Control Desk. New software is regularly added to the App Store for automatic deployment, where applicable.

Expanding the focus of the automatic deployments and enabling additional functionality and capabilities is possible. 5 Software Deployment Workflow End User Requests Software from Enterprise App Store Workflow Initiated. Automatic or manual approvals based on policy. Checks for available License Capacity. Workflow calls IEM to deploy Software Software deployed to target Communicates to Control Desk to decrement the license and sends notification to user that Software is provisioned

Thinking through the General Approach
Is BigFix / SUA installed and functional in your business? What software do you have enabled currently for automatic deployment with BigFix? How many software titles? Of the software enabled for BigFix deployment, do you have a list of those that require approvals before deployment? Are the software products connected or linked to a know license entitlement record or system? Is this software used by end users? Or operations? Is license entitlement data stored in a system today? What teams (resources) need to be engaged to enable the App Store? How will the App Store be exposed to users for use? Is there consideration for expansion of the App Store concept to say Admin software deployments? These questions allow you to start thinking about the strategy for enabling the App Store within your business for your user community. This is not an exhaustive list, and you do not need all the answers before you begin the workbook at the end of this power point deck. It is however recommended that before you begin step B of the workbook you have the strategy and rollout approach determined for how users will gain access to the app store and how the system will be rolled out and supported.

However, if your requirement is checking for licenses (and/or license management in general) as part of the software request process, then the SUA package (IBM BigFix Inventory) would be required.
