Quadrilaterals Jacob, Allie, and Jesenia
2
Definition ★ Quadrilateral means “4 sides ★ “Quad” means 4 and “lateral” means sides
3
Properties To be a quadrilateral, a shape MUST: ★ be a polygon (no crossing sides, only 2 sides meet at a vertex) ★ Have 4 sides and 4 angles
4
Types of quads: ★ Parallelogram ★ Rectangle ★ Rhombus ★ Square ★ Trapezoid ★ Kite
5
Square ❖ All sides are equal, 2 sets of parallel sides ❖ Every interior angle is a right angle (90 ੦ ) ❖ It is also a Regular Polygon
6
Rectangle ❖ Opposite sides are parallel and of equal length ❖ It can also be defined as a parallelogram containing a right angle
7
Rhombus ❖ All sides are equal ❖ Opposite sides are parallel and opposite sides are equal ❖ The altitude is the distance at right angles to two sides
8
Quadrilateral Parallelograms ★ A four sided shape where the opposite sides are ○parallel ○equal length ■and have the same angles
9
Trapezoid (Trapezium in UK) ★ 4 sided flat shape ○1 pair of parallel sides ○1 pair of sides that are not parallel ■if they are the same length with the same angle it's an isosceles trapezoid
10
Kite ➔ 2 pairs of sides ➔ Each pair of adjacent sides are equal ➔ When the diagonals cross, they make a right angle
11
Concave Quadrilaterals ❏ 4 sides ❏ Goes in on itself (One angle is over 180 O ) ❏ One pair of sides has a diagonal inside the shape, while the other pair has a diagonal outside Concave Convex (normal)
