Outward Travel You need to be at school at 5.45am on Thursday 13th February. We will travel to Dover, stopping at a service station for refreshments. Cross channel ferry to Calais. Students can buy lunch on the ferry. Ferry journey is approximately an hour and a half. Once in Calais, we drive directly to Belgium and into Ypres.

What does your tour include? Accommodation on a full board basis (breakfast, lunch and evening meal) Travel Insurance All transport costs. Fully guided programme of excursions including the entrance fees to most museums.

Day One Depart from school and travel to Dover. Cross-channel ferry to Calais. Arrive in Calais and travel to Ypres.. Visit Essex Farm cemetery Visit Passchendaele Museum & Dug Out Experience Visit Vancouver corner Check into Hotels. Evening meal at a restaurant. Time to settle in at the hotel.

Day Two Depart hotel after breakfast. Langemark German Cemetery Yorkshire Trench, Boezinge Death Trench Tyne Cot cemetary The Menin Gate in Ypres Lunch Sanctuary Wood and Hill 62 Museum Evening Meal at a restaurant. Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate Return to Hotel

Day Three Depart hotel after breakfast Flanders Field museum St Georges Church and Chocolate Shopping Travel to Calais and visit Cite Europe hypermarket. Return ferry to Dover. Travel back to ALNS.

Homeward Travel Depart Ypres at lunchtime. Visit Cite Europe Hypermarket in Calais for last minute shopping! Cross Channel ferry from Calais to Dover. Arrive at ALNS between 8 and 9pm.

Accommodation Accommodation of a 4* standard is provided. Students will be accommodated in varied sized rooms. Rooms will be allocated before we leave. Our tour is based on a full board basis which includes breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal. Staff will be allocated rooms close by on each floor. Room card is issued per person, per room. Must be looked after. Staff also have a master card for emergencies. Any telephone calls must be paid for. Rooms must be opened immediately when a member of staff needs access. Respect other guests. Any breakages through poor behaviour must be paid for by the students. Towels are provided. Extra drinks can be bought from the hotel bar. Bring a 3 point plug adapter!

Clothes It will be cold and we spend most of our time outdoors. You need lots of warm clothes! Go for layers and a thick coat. Bring hats, gloves and scarves. Comfortable shoes – you will be doing lots of walking. All Toiletries including anything electrical– towels are optional. Wellie’s for the trenches! Waterproof coat. Umbrella is optional. Camera/mobile phone/I pod – all at your own risk. Must be turned off when on the tour. Notebook and pen to keep a diary. Activities for the coach journey. Rucksack/bag for the days.

Food Breakfast and evening meals are provided as part of the package. Breakfast is served between 7.30 and 8.15am. You will need to prepare your own packed lunch everyday in the hotel. You need to buy any extra snacks and drinks. Bring lunch for the first day or buy it on the ferry. Vegetarians and Food Allergies will been accounted for. Tap water is safe but you can buy bottled water if your prefer. Food will be very different so be prepared to try new things!

Money The unit of currency in Belgium is the Euro. Recommend no more than £50 worth. You will need approximately 10 euros for entrance to two museums. This is NOT optional.

Medical All medical needs have been recorded. EHIC card must have been given to the school bank. These will be carried by the coach leader. Each coach has at least one first aider. You are fully covered for medical insurance (included in your tour price). Don’t forget any medication. Time Zone Belgium is one hour ahead of UK time.

Rules We expect excellent behaviour at all times. You are representing ALNS. For your own safety, ALWAYS follow staff instructions without question. Seatbelts must be worn on the coaches at all times. Students are strictly forbidden from going on the boar deck without a member of staff. When you are given a time and meeting place, be there. No excuses! During the day, walk around in small groups of 3-4. Don’t leave anyone alone. Strictly no purchase or use of alcohol, smoking, fire crackers or anything you know we wouldn’t approve of. Respect each other, other guests and passengers and your staff! Be nice to each other….and us!
