During World War II, some 350,000 women served in the U.S. Armed Forces, both at home and abroad. While traditionally female secretarial and clerical jobs took an expected large portion, thousands of WAVES performed previously atypical duties in the aviation community Women in the Military

Many minorities relocated to industrial cities for employment at factories FDR signed Executive Order 8802 banning workplace discrimination in defense industries and the federal government, establishing the Fair Employment Practices Commission (FEPC) to enforce the order.

These were gardens grown at home to help with rationing This allowed the commercial grown food to be sent to the troops at war
