SOSY A/S Excel in Report Management Why Robot/REPORTS? How Does It Work? Basic Setup Features Operations Advanced Features Robot/REPORTS Interfaces
3
SOSY A/S Report Management Your goal is to organize and automate the processing of reports Users are more productive with customized versions of the standard reports Report viewing and electronic distribution can get rid of need for paper reports Reports are not saved on the iSeries unless you use an archive tool Printing paper is one of the bottlenecks to lights-out operations
4
SOSY A/S Most report pages are never read... So why are they printed?
5
SOSY A/S Why do reports get printed? We’ve always gotten a copy! Action Items: Let’s find them! Totals!
6
SOSY A/S Each printed page costs approx. 10 cents Labor for handling –Filing –Retrieving & copying –Re-filing –Lost documents Material to create report Report storage
7
SOSY A/S On-line Data Is More Available Multiple user access Customization of data makes data more available and users more productive Data can still be printed
8
SOSY A/S The objectives with Robot/REPORTS are to: Reduce the cost of printed output and equipment by making report viewing so attractive that users will prefer this to printed reports in most cases Increase users’ productivity: Let Robot/REPORT analyze reports and highlight important items Make sure Robot/REPORT only prints what is necessary Reduce operation costs for distributing, bursting, and manually archiving reports Reduce programming costs because users can change their own views Provide automatic balancing

24
SOSY A/S Report Viewing Customization of the columnar layout of a report –Highlight action items –Exclude columns –Move columns –Report notes –Scanning /Searching –On demand viewing features GUI Interface
25
SOSY A/S Report Notes Add notes to a Report View 3 ways to add a note: –Private notes (bookmark) –Public notes –List of authorized recipients
26
SOSY A/S Report Highlighting We analyze the reports for you Customize review rules by recipient Improves readability and usefulness of reports Encourages viewing rather than printing

28
SOSY A/S Archiving & Retrieval Long-Term On-line Each Report Set identifies how many days the report should how many days the report should stay in each stage stay in each stage 5 days 3 months 7 years Short-Term
29
SOSY A/S Online Storage Location Reports are stored in Robot/REPORTS format on your iSeries Reports are available for immediate viewing or printing, downloading, etc.
30
SOSY A/S Shortterm Storage Location Report is saved to a save file and removed from online storage Save file is compressed Users can request the report to be restored so it can be viewed or printed
31
SOSY A/S Longterm Storage Location Report save file is saved to the longterm location and removed from shortterm location Longterm location may be tape or optical Users can request the report to be restored so it may be viewed or printed

33
SOSY A/S Secure Report Data Viewing from a workstation is User Profile specific. Each recipient sees only what they are eligible to see. This can include specific lines and/or columns of a report.

35
SOSY A/S Operations Three Methods of Processing System setup –System defaults –Recipients –Report sets Report History
36
SOSY A/S Three Methods of Processing SEARCH –Spool file gets created by your programs –Output queue is monitored for specific spool files –Job is submitted to process your report
37
SOSY A/S Three Methods of Processing Robot/SCHEDULE - Link your job to Robot/REPORTS which runs the program job that creates your reports This method reduces maintenance because your programs are already defined in Robot/SCHEDULE
38
SOSY A/S Three Methods of Processing EXECUTE - Use our command REPRUNSET to run your programs that create reports, then process the reports into the Robot/REPORTS archive
