2 2 Formed in 1975 and today more than 27,000 members strong, NAEMT is the nation’s only organization solely dedicated to representing the professional interests of all EMS practitioners. What Is NAEMT?

7 7 Our Focus The NAEMT Strategic Plan defines the association’s direction and three key areas of focus: Education, Membership and Advocacy Education Membership Advocacy Strategic Plan

8 8 Education NAEMT offers the best in EMS continuing education through three core programs. Last year, NAEMT: Conducted 3,500 courses Trained 46,090 students

9 9 Education Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) AMLS offers a practical approach to adult medical emergencies, helping participants increase their abilities in assessing and managing patients from initial field impressions through differential diagnoses.

10 10 Education Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC) EPC addresses the care of sick and injured children, giving students a practical understanding of pediatric respiratory, cardiovascular, medical and traumatic emergencies.

11 11 Education Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) PHTLS targets all levels of prehospital care providers with scenarios, lectures and interactive skills stations to enhance knowledge and further develop the critical thinking skills required to effectively treat trauma patients in the field.

12 12 Education New and upcoming events for NAEMT educational programs include: Newly redesigned EPC course materials introduced PHTLS Seventh Edition and AMLS textbooks to be published in fall 2010, and instructor updates to be held at EMS EXPO 2010 New PHTLS course for first responders to be introduced in 2010

19 19 Advocacy Why Do We Advocate? Through our advocacy efforts we: Ensure the EMS perspective is considered Voice concerns to the federal government Promote EMS professionalism and the image of EMS practitioners within the EMS and medical communities and to the public

20 20 Advocacy How Do We Advocate? A recent NAEMT position statement addressed air medical transport safety. NAEMT advocates by: Monitoring and responding to legislation Publishing position statements Working in coalition with Advocates for EMS Collaborating with federal agencies, EMS and other medical organizations National representation at meetings

21 21 Recognition National Awards Steven Ray Huffine, NREMT-P (left), receives the 2008 EMT Paramedic of the Year Award. EMS practitioners can nominate colleagues for national recognition. Recipients receive: A $1,000 stipend Free travel, lodging for three nights and registration for EMS EXPO Recognition in NAEMT News and in EMS Magazine
