Michael DeBakey Creator of the MASH unit which is a mobile army surgical hospital. Innovator of the coronary artery bypass surgery. Pioneer in filming surgical procedures to use for teaching. Surgical practice until his death at the age of 99 years old in 2008.

Denton Cooley Him and his team have performed more heart transplants than any group in the world. He served in the US Army. Worked with Michael DeBakey then became his rival and broke off all collaboration with him.

Benjy Brooks First woman pediatric surgeon in Texas. First woman at Harvard to be accepted into the Department of Surgery. One of only 3 pediatric surgeons in Texas in 1960 and the only woman. Worked in the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston and St. Joseph’s Hospital. Taught and conducted research at Baylor University.

Howard Hughes Senior Capitalized on the discovery of oil at Spindletop. Petroleum business entrepreneur and pioneer. Started the Sharp-Hughes Tool Company, producing oilfield equipment. Earned a fortune working in the oil business.

Assignment For the assignment we will be writing down each person’s accomplishments they had in their lifetime and also their line of work. You will write down all the accomplishments you can find on the paper I hand out in the boxes that go for that person. You may use your electronic device to search up more accomplishments that each person had. This is individual work.
