1 The password is ‘admin’. What’s the password for the software?

2 Every Rapid Writing session contains at least 1 of each activity type. What are the different activity types in the software?

3 All but the first two of the software sessions include a punctuation game – practising what children have done in the lesson. How is punctuation practised in the software?

4

5 What happens when you go back to an activity you have done before? When you go back to an activity, you go back to the first screen. You are told how many medals you got last time, and encouraged to score more this time.

6 There isn’t a spell checker: we want children to focus on composing sentences, without negative feedback. The software will read out anything you type in so don’t allocate the Text-to- Speech activities to pupils you are worried about. Is there a spell checker in the Text- to-Speech activities? What happens if you write a rude word?

7 How do I timetable Rapid Writing? Whenever suits your school best: - before school/ during assembly - during the last half of the literacy lesson - during another lesson

8 How does it fit with Every Child a Writer? Great complement to ECAW: Talk for writing, guided writing, focus on strands 9, 10 and 11 (text and sentence cohesion) Schools can use it - in 1-to-1 sessions if needed - for Year 3 and 4 children not getting the tutoring (further behind) - for Year 5 and 6 children.

9 Why doesn’t Stage 3 have longer areas for children to write in? Stage 3 focuses on the skills you need to be a 3C/3B writer – this is the best use of the 30 minutes. It gives children the skills they need to use in longer pieces of writing that happen outside RW sessions.

10 How do teachers know where to start the programme? Teachers will know what sub-level their children are in writing. They then choose the Writing Log that matches the sub-level.

11

12 How do teachers measure progress? Assessment tasks in Rapid Writing: - independent writing every 5 weeks - guided writing every 10 weeks - refer to the assessment guidance in the TG Some schools do an unaided piece at the start and end of the intervention and measure sub-levels of progress
