All Rights Reserved There have been layoffs among the Best, but as a last resort, not a first resort – many Best Companies began to slow their hiring and expansion plans in 2007-2008 – in anticipation of what was coming Leaders in Best Companies always have a long list of strategies they have utilized to reduce the impact on employees before any layoffs occur: Compressed Workweeks Job Sharing Cross Training Infilling open positions Telecommuting Voluntary layoff, retirement or reduction in time
