Gorillas live in rain forests of Africa. Gorillas are herbivores( they eat only plants ) Examples of food gorillas eat are fruit, seeds, treebark, plant bulbs, tender plant shoots, and flowers. Average adult male gorillas eat approximately 50 pounds of food a day.

Gorillas are covered with brownish hair on most of their body. A gorillas foot has a thumb. Gorillas hands are much like humans. Male gorillas are much larger than females. Males can weigh as much as 450 pounds.

Gorillas are endangered because of humans. To provide food humans burn the forests where mountain gorillas live. Some people illegally go into parks to hunt gorillas. A good solution would be to enforce strong laws. People should keep them safe in national parks.

Fun Facts: Gorilla babies drink their mother’s milk. Less than 900 gorillas remain today. Gorillas are close relatives of humans. Gorillas groom one another. Some gorillas learn sign language from humans
