Medieval drama General characterstics Medieval drama General characterstics flourished in the 15th century; it began in the church. Language was Latin Moved to the church porch. Moved to the streets. Plays were performed by wandering troupes of actors. Different guilds. Latin was replaced by vernacular.

Liturgical drama refers to the origin of the British drama.

Mystery Plays derived from the scripture; deals with the redemption of man.

Miracle plays are concerned with the lives of the saints.

Morality plays represent the conflict between good and evil. (Allegory)
