3 Department of Public Works, Maintenance Division 2013Highlights Over 10,000 lbs of asphalt patch placed over last year 180 SF of Concrete Sidewalk placed or repaired by City forces Identification and assistance with utilities at MLK as part of Lycee Francais tenant improvements Assisted Library Project by installing new carpeting Installed Tsunami Signage throughout town Assisted with creating seasonal Bike Parking in Lot 1 Maintaining temporary lighting along Bridgeway with assistance from Police Department Filled 51 dumpsters of Green Waste from trimming along roads, parks, medians and hedges throughout town. 4 Wastewater Issues 8 Public Sewer Overflows 12 Private Overflows 46.36 miles of sanitary sewer line maintenance (vactor and/or rodding) was performed 3,178 ft of private lateral repair/replacement were completed and inspected

7 Working with the Community Goals Focusing efforts on Sausalito’s Public Spaces Public and Community involvement and coordination of efforts and volunteerism Identification of locations and goals for public spaces Establishment of expectations and guidelines for on- going maintenance and upkeep

8 What’s been done to date? An agreement with Questa Engineering Corp to assess the current condition of the City’s medians, including the trees, and offer alternatives if warranted, and prepare budget estimates Hired the services of a private landscaping firm, Cagwin and Dorward, to assist in median clean up of weeds and undesirable plants Worked with Blooming Bridgeway to introduce and maintain native plantings at north entrance of Sausalito Worked cooperatively with the Woman’s Club to establish a rose garden and other landscaping at the entrance of Gabrielson park Director and Division Manager met with Sausalito Beautiful Group to discuss procedures, challenges and opportunities to enhance Sausalito’s thoroughfares and other public spaces. Group agreed to continue to work towards establishing standards and expectations.

10 Moving Forward… Review what other communities have accomplished to enhance their public spaces Review the benefits of hiring the services of an outside landscaping firm for maintenance of our medians and potentially other locations within the City Involve City DPW staff in cooperative efforts with community groups Work closely with Park and Recreation Department on their efforts to raise awareness and funds from the community Evaluate the possibility of obtaining and using other funds, such as Measure A funding, to support our efforts to enhance our public parks Meet regularly with community groups to evaluate effectiveness and to identify areas of focus and efforts

13 Other Parks and Spaces Cazneau Park and Recreation, along with DPW and Rotary, to work with neighboring community to make repairs and purchase new equipment Dunphy Park Friends of Dunphy Park currently working on a Draft Schematic Master Plan Robin Sweeney Plans are currently 80% complete, reviewed by a Certified Access Specialist, fundraising on-going Southview Plans for retaining walls have been designed and are under review by DPW. 14 What’s next? The Department of Public Works, having coordinated with the Park and Recreation Department and Community Groups, will return before the Council with various projects whose focus will be the beautification of Sausalito. The Department of Public Works will look for direction and support from the Council for the implementation of these projects.
