Kellogg Entrepreneurial Internship Program (KEIP) GOAL: Summer internships with entrepreneurial firms provide first year students the opportunity to “test” entrepreneurship. TYPES OF FIRMS/VENTURES: Entrepreneurial firms, venture capital firms and for-profit social ventures APPLICATIONS: Available via the Levy website beginning Feb. 18 thLevy website Due March 4, 2013 by 5 p.m. TIME: 10-week program LOCATION: Anywhere world-wide STIPENDS: Limited number totaling $5,000 per student PROCESS: Students identify entrepreneurial or venture capital firms for which they would like to work. Social Enterprise at Kellogg (SEEK) GOAL: Students interested in exploring career options in the social enterprise field are able to pursue a summer internship in nonprofit, public or social entrepreneurial organizations. APPLICATIONS: Available via the SEEK websiteSEEK website Due May 3, 2013 FUNDING: Matching stipends for students working in 501c3 or NGOs Students in their first summer job experience are eligible Total compensation of $10,000 Relevance of position to student’s long-term career Guidelines and more information available via the SEEK websiteSEEK website While there is value to a volunteer experience, this program will not provide funds unless the organization is providing a stipend. Family Enterprise Summer Internship Program GOAL: This program is an opportunity for first-year students who are considering entering or re-entering their family enterprise after graduation. Three types of internships: Students returning to family enterprises Students working for another family enterprise Students working for a family foundation APPLICATIONS: Accepted Feb. 25 th to March 4 th by 5 p.m. TIME COMMITMENT: 8 to 12-week internship in student’s family business ASSISTANCE: Students meet individually with a CFE professor to tailor an internship proposal specific to his/her interests and goals, as well as finalize with their summer opportunity. REPORTING: Students and the professor(s) will connect three times as a group by conference call to share progress, talk over challenges, give and receive advice, etc. FINAL PRESENTATIONS: In the early fall quarter, the students will present to members of the Family Enterprise Club and KIEI. Innovation & New Ventures Office (INVO) | I2C A student-centered and highly selective program being administered by INVO and sponsored by McCormick School of Engineering, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern Law, and Feinberg School of Management. GOAL: To provide graduate students first-hand experience in handling NU intellectual property as it pertains to academia and commercialization. FACTS: + Open to PhD, MBA, JD, MS Northwestern graduate students + 6-8 fellows will be selected + Paid fellowship + 10-week program from June through August + Intense training in the innovation to commercialization space will be provided QUESTIONS? 3 Types of I2C Fellows INVENTION, MARKETING and VENTURE fellows will focus on different aspects of the innovation to commercialization process. INNOVATIONCOMMERCIALIZATION The MARKETING FELLOW will work with INVO’s Marketing Manager and interact with industry contacts to canvass corporate interest in specific technology sectors and identify corporate partners for licensing. With the help of INVO invention managers and industry contacts, they will learn how to assess inventions by evaluating overall patentability and the market landscape. They will also help create marketing material to be sent to industry. The VENTURE FELLOW will work with an entrepreneur-in-residence, providing support for business aspects of existing Northwestern startups, such as writing business plans and elevator pitches for VCs. They will also interact with faculty who need help with building strategies to commercialize their discoveries.

I2C | Invention, Marketing and Venture: Types of Work or Projects INNOVATIONCOMMERCIALIZATION MARKETING FELLOW Market Northwestern innovations externally Identify potential corporate partners for licensing Canvass corporate interest in specific technology sectors Provide marketing recommendations based upon technology sector POTENTIAL PROJECT: Develop marketing strategies for individual or portfolio-based inventions. Kim, PhD INVO, Marketing Manager sonia.kim@northwestern.edu INVENTION FELLOW Identify and screen new inventions disclosed by Northwestern inventors Perform preliminary market and valuation analysis Perform prior art research and test patentability for new technologies Provide recommendations for IP strategy Create preliminary marketing material to distribute to potential technology licensees POTENTIAL PROJECT: Assess a faculty-centered or area- specific portfolio of related inventions (e.g. medical devices, nanotechnology, electronics, materials, or therapeutics ). VENTURE FELLOW Develop business plans and identify managers and potential investors Prepare elevator pitches for founders Help expand investor and angel network for INVO Provide recommendations based upon market, financial, commercialization and risk factors POTENTIAL PROJECT: Assist existing Northwestern startup with some business aspect or help faculty think through the translation of their discoveries into the commercial space.

Launch Program Dashfire Launch will enable an MBA team to build their new venture through collaboration with the Chicago startup eco-system.
