SIDS Alert Device BY ERIC BAGNARD JT HIRSIG
2
Overview Background SIDS stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome One of the leading causes of death for infants in the United States Most common for infants 6 months and younger No symptoms
3
Overview Sponsor Micron Technology Incorporated Goals Design a wrist or ankle strap that monitors infant vital signs Sends data to storage software Send alerts to caregiver’s cell phone Compact and not harmful to child
4
Technical Description Vision Wireless ankle strap Monitor heart rate, oxygen level, and body temperature Send data to monitoring system Store collected data Alert if vital signs get out of safe range
5
Technical Description Block Diagram
6
Technical Description Early Testing: AFE-4490SPO2EVM Difficult to prototype with
7
Technical Description Parts Included Temperature Sensor Accuracy I2C Infrared
8
Technical Description Parts Included Heart Rate Monitor LED and ambient light sensor Analog signal
9
Technical Description Parts Included Transmitter and Receiver Pass-through integrated circuits Acts as a wired serial connection Sends data one byte at a time
10
Technical Description Parts Included GPRS Shield Compatible with Arduino Functions with any service provider Sends text message
11
Technical Description ASM Chart
12
Technical Description Functional Testing Measurements are taken and transmitted Data is collected and formatted in a text file A message is sent to caregiver if needed
13
Technical Description Power Consumption Voltage: 9 V battery Current: 50 - 70 mA Amp hours of battery: 550 mA Hrs Overall power consumed: 0.63 W
14
Technical Description Features Compact design Measures heart rate and body temperature Wireless communication Data logging system Texting alarm
15
Considerations Obstacles Faced SPO2 Heart rate sensor accuracy Continuous connection with GPRS Shield Heart rate Interrupt Purchase extra parts
16
Considerations Future Considerations More research in SPO2 PCB for ankle strap Better access to collected data Displayable data on ankle strap Different phone service provider Power consumption efficiency
17
Conclusions This is a functional proof of concept. This is a wireless device that can monitor heart rate and body temperature. It can send a text message as an alert to a caregiver and log collected data in a text file.
