4 © 2011 All Rights Reserved. Helping elementary in-service teachers to work and to see things through by employing systematic methods of analyzing problems (Persisting)! Prof was engaged in scientific inquiry with the in-service teachers. In-service teachers explored science concepts associated with living things using the 5 E Learning Cycle Approach within the context of the 4 Levels of Educational Outcomes model. There were several different lessons completed in the first three weeks of the course, demonstrating a 5 E learning Cycle Approach, science experimentation, and focused on finding out more about each of the 4 Levels of Educational Outcomes (model) and different aspects of teaching science with inquiry and scientific inquiry. Lesson 1: Roto-copters Lesson 2: Swinging of a simple pendulum. In-service teachers created a web diagram "for what to do when I get stuck" to have available to persist when confronted with challenging science problems to solve! They compared their Web Diagram to the Professor's. Prof shared the book by Marie Ciota! He recommends to read a passage from The Mindful Garden of Verses by Marie Ciota on the HoM: Persisting, “The Skating Lesson.” In-service teachers reflected and stated they were ready to take on future challenges! The next challenge was to create a Concept Map that focused on the Science Content Storyline of the “Nightcrawler” earthworm. In-service teachers were working very well in cooperative groups, but were challenged sometimes in finding ways to set up science experiments and managing all of the variables! Sometimes an individiul or small group gets stuck. We need some more strategies! In-service teachers were working very well in cooperative groups and becoming more aware of the HoM. They are engaged on the reflective staircase!
