4 My Goals To give your children the academic and social skills they need to progress in fifth grade. To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. To help them make new friends and discover new interests.

5 Classroom Community Our classroom is a community. Students learn to work together and solve problems Our class rules are: –Be respectful and responsible. –Be organized and follow directions. –Be on time. –Be prepared

10 Fifth Grade: A study of early US History Units: Colonization Colonial Life and the Development of a New World Identity Revolution (includes a research project) US Government and Civics Expansion Current Unit Concepts: Motivation, Organization, Survival, Change Skills continued and strengthened: historical thinking through analyzing primary and secondary sources, reading a variety of text, note taking, research, writing, working in groups to solve problems, using and creating maps.

11 Essential Questions for our Unit Long Inquiry: Why do people form colonies? How do people form colonies? Is colonization ever justified? How does colonization change a region?

13 Homework Homework is assigned daily Ms. Lanna –Math –Social Studies Mrs. Dobransky –Reading –Writing TOTAL amount of time spent on ALL homework should not exceed 1.5 hr. If you find this is not the case for your child please discuss with me
