All over the past 200 years Haiti and Dominican Republic has shared its own border, its not like they hate each other to death, but their problems are major. Some problems have occur because Haitians wanted to take over some of their land but Dominicans refused and have struggled all this year so they could maintain their beautiful land. 4 Haiti on the western part has an Afro-French culture while the Dominican Republic on the eastern extension is Hispanic. Haitians speak Creole and French; Dominicans speak Spanish. The population of Haiti is in majority black; that of the Dominican Republic is mostly mulatto with a minority of black and white. In fact the two countries merely coexist on this small island, conflict arising almost everyday between the two governments. Both countries have a colonial past that had shaped them to produce what they are today. 5 Some special events that happens in D.R: Some special events that happens in D.R: February : Santo Domingo Festival – The Carnival brings the streets to life every weekend throughout February, with a huge pared down the July: Merengue Festival – This special event takes place in Santo Domingo, in this event the music gets blasted all over the streets where everybody out and dances.
