Y9 ICT Claverham Community College ICT Department SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT

11 June 2016 Slide 2 Background Information Mr Jones organises most of the Claverham dry ski trips. Each year we make 4-5 visits to the slope at Chatham, involving over 250 pupils and payments of over £4500. Over the past 5 years that is over 1250 pupils and £22,500 in payments!

Mr Jones Computer System Requirements: A new computer system that will: 1.Calculate the cost of the trip to pupils after up-to-date prices from the coach company, the ski centre and travel insurance company have been obtained. (N.B. The trip needs to make a small ‘profit’) 2.Allow posters to be produced announcing details of the next trip to pupils. 3.Store details of the pupils that are going to take part in a trip. Ideally, it should be possible to print out these details in a form that could be used as a register on the day of the trip. Also, being able to search for particular groups of pupils would be very useful e.g. Y9 girls. 4.Produce a ‘personalised’ note to pupils (given to them through their register) telling them to come to a lunchtime meeting the day before the trip. 5.Create a promotional video for the Ski Club to be displayed in the Exhibition hall and on the intranet to encourage more skiers on the regular trip.

Identification of what software is needed Using a mind map explain each task and decide which software will be suitable for each individual task

Project Plan Create a project plan: Using your school diary, work out how many ICT lessons there are until the deadline. Looking at Mr Jones’ requirements, estimate how long you will need to spend on each task. You will need to select the most appropriate piece of software the produce the project plan.

System Lifecycle The successful development of any new computer system involves a series of six different steps:
