Meeting Strategies Methodology devised to organise periodic meeting with employees, tenants & task force (test group). Common Strategy based on 3 Steps 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
12
Meeting Strategies (Cont’d) List – Experiences with tenants – Expectations of tenants Contact – Project news – Installation schedule – Tablets Determine – Communication Process – Information to provide – Questions to prepare 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
13
Scheduled Meetings Staff task force meetings – Who are members – Thematic to follow – Info to employees General Meetings – Objectives & targets – Guidelines for SHC’s – Communication material to tenants 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
14
Scheduled Meetings (Cont’d) Tenants Task Force – The role of the task force – Steps in planning tenant’s task force meetings – Thematic guide to execute the meetings – Progress report for each task force meeting 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
15
Evaluation Identify barriers – Technical, behavioural or regulatory Effectiveness of the Interaction programme; whether appropriate for audience Observations from the qualitative interviews 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
16
Continuation Combined with information for replication of the project design - a model for long term tenant involvement. 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
17
In reality - Communication Small number of tenants in UK No collective meetings in UK – Difficult to organise due to tenants circumstance – Tenants preference – No communal area – separate properties Interaction – In person – Telephone – letter 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
18
Communication (Cont’d) More successful participation in France & Sweden More use of collective meetings Interaction – In person – In groups – Telephone – Letter 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation

25
ICT - Response from tenants An overall mixed response dependant on Knowledge base (ICT) Knowledge base (energy usage) Misconceptions about heating Acceptance to change behaviour 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
26
Smart Controls Operations Must be simple & meaningful (in all settings) Work 1 st time Acceptance Hardware should be suitable for purpose Monitoring needs to be more reliable (UK) 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
27
Feedback from Tenants Faster response times - from instruction to tablet to operation of equipment Long delays in response prompted – Negative comments – Threats to leave project – Costs to Housing Association (monetary & reputation) Cost of equipment operations (approx. €30 p.a.) – Savings must be greater! 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
28
Our Perspective Energy Utilities need to: Design smart metering that includes – Gas, water & electricity Put more effort to standardising international smart controls protocol. Technology companies need to: Develop quality interface at reasonable cost. Bring to market a complete ‘plug-and-play’ system. 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
29
To Conclude……. A few tenants have been genuinely impressed with the concept Valuable learning experience Scope for replication only if – Made much more simple – Less components – Technology with a proven record – Cost effective (equipment, installation & maintenance) 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
30
Smart Controls – Yes or No? Yes if……… Low cost specification – Social Housing providers can’t spend big to save little! Good quality hardware Simple technology Easy to operate 6/11/2016WPx-Organisation
