Welcome to Physics Please pick up TWO syllabi on your way in.

Objectives I will be responsible for learning the classroom expectations, rules, and procedures in Mrs. Standley’s classroom. I will demonstrate my understanding of these expectations, rules, and procedures by: 1) Signing the syllabus 2) Having my parent/guardian read through and sign the syllabus 3) Returning the syllabus by Friday, August 28 for a grade. 4) Following all expectations, rules, and procedures for the entire semester.

A bit about me… I’m originally from Indiana. I graduated from Indiana University Bloomington. I love writing, music, and watching documentaries. I was drum major of my high school band!

My Method of Teaching Collaboration Science is best learned by working together. Introduce yourself to the person next to you and explain why you decided to take Physics. Demonstration You need to see science in action.

Tutorial Times Tuesday and Wednesday 3:15-4:00 Also available by appointment.

Daily Classroom Expectations Be on time! Turn in any homework to your period’s homework tray at the beginning of the period. Stow all personal belongings underneath your desk as soon as you sit down except for your notebook and pencil. Work on the bell work assignment quietly for the first few minutes of class. If you finish early, review your notes from the previous day. **2 nd Period: There should be absolutely no talking during the pledges, moment of silence and announcements.

Bell Work Format Lesson Title, Date, Homework, Bell Work EXAMPLE: “Introduction to Physics” 8/24/2015 Homework: Sign syllabus, have parent sign syllabus, and return by 8/28/2015 BW: Pick up two copies of the syllabus from the front table.

Materials Notebook Preferably three-ring binder/folder with loose leaf and dividers. Pen/pencil No course textbook will be issued Available to check out if needed. Other materials Calculator Make this change on your syllabus!!! Ti-83 or 84, but any calculator capable of doing exponents will work.

Daily Classroom Expectations Cont’d During class, stay in your seat unless otherwise instructed. If you have a question or comment, always raise your hand. At the end of class, I will dismiss you. DO NOT LINE UP AT THE DOOR!!!!!

Classroom Rules 1) Be responsible. Keep up on due dates If you aren’t sure about something, ask. 2) Be respectful of yourself and others. Everyone deserves a classroom that allows them to learn. 3) Listen carefully and follow directions. 4) Have a positive attitude. Physics can be challenging. Celebrate the small things. 5) No food or drink in class.

Student Passes Every student will be given TWO restroom passes per *six weeks. No passes will be given while the teacher is engaged (presentations, demonstrations, ect.) or the first and last five minutes of class. When students are working on their own (labs, classroom activities, projects, ect.) one student may leave with the hall pass at a time. *Correction: TWO passes per six weeks, not per semester.

Grading Daily Grades (50%) Tests/Assessments (50%) Test Re-Take Policy: Students are allowed to retest if they failed an exam as long as they have turned in all assignments and complete a relearning activity. The highest grade you may earn on a re-test is a 70. This is school policy. Scale: 90-100: A 80-89: B 70-79: C 0-69: F

Make-Up Work All work from the day of your absence can be found in your respective class binder at the front of the room and also online on my Whitehouse profile page. It is your responsibility to find out what you missed. If you were absent one day, then you have one day to finish and turn in any homework. If you were absent two days, then you have two days to finish and turn in any homework and so on.

Late Policy 1 day late: Highest grade earned will be 80% 2 days late: Highest grade earned will be 70% 3 days late: A zero will be given for the assignment.

Exit Questions On a separate sheet of paper with the following heading, answer the following questions, but do not write them out: Physics First Day Exit Questions 8/24/2015 Name: Period: 1) Do you have any questions or concerns about the syllabus or class? 2) List two goals you have for this class. 3) Tell me one cool fact about yourself.
