Feelings and Change Feelings “are the emotional reaction people have to their experiences and to events around them. There are many different kinds of feelings including positive and negative.

People’s feelings about situations change over time. Immediate- straight after the event Short term- hours, day or weeks after the event Long-term – months or years after the event.

Expressing feelings I statements- -What is an “I” statement? -If a person is relating their feelings to another person they use I statements. -It basically means they take ownership of the feeling “I feel hurt because”

Self talk or de- stressing thoughts -If people are reflecting about their own thoughts, they need to use self talk to respond rationally and realistically. -Often people use self talk to put themselves down, however it should be used positively!! -Self talk is about acknowledging and identifying the feeling but then using the feeling in more rational ways. -E.g when I get something wrong in class I feel angry!
