3 VISION : Leading Centre of Excellence To be the Leading Centre of Excellence in Occupational Safety and Health MISSION : Preferred Partner To be the Preferred Partner in Enhancing Occupational Safety and Health NIOSH Background  registered on 24th June 1992 as a company limited by guarantee under the Companies Act 1965.  the Board of Directors is the authoritative body that makes policies and decisions and its members are individuals from government, unions and the industrial sector. While NIOSH management team is the administrative body who runs the daily operations of NIOSH.  NIOSH was established with an endowment fund from SOCSO and from the Government. This fund was invested to become part of NIOSH’s source of income.  started operations in March 1993.

7 DOSH (Department Occupationally Safety and Health)

8 Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is a department under the Ministry of Human Resources. This department is responsible for ensuring the safety, health and welfare of people at work as well as protecting other people from the safety and health hazards arising from the activities from various sectors. As a government agency, the department is responsible for the administration and enforcement of legislations related to occupational safety and health of the country, with a vision of becoming an organisation which leads the nation in creating a safe and healthy work culture that contributes towards enhancing the quality of working life. Objective: To prevent industrial accidents and occupational diseases by the year 2015 through: 1) Reducing the rate of fatalities up to 20%; 2) Reducing the rate of reported accidents (deaths, permanent loss of ability, temporary loss of ability) up to 30%; 3) Increasing the number of enforcement and inspection by 20%; 4) Increasing the number of OSH competent persons by 30%. 9 1)To study and review the policies and legislations of occupational safety and health. 2) To enforce the following legislations : a) Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and its regulations. b) Factories and Machinery Act 1967 and its regulations. c) Petroleum Act 1984 (Safety Measures) and its regulations. 3) To conduct research and technical analysis on issues related to occupational safety and health at the workplace. 4) To carry out promotional and publicity programs to employers, workers and the general public to foster and increase the awareness of occupational safety and health. 5) To become a secretariat for the National Council regarding occupational safety and health. 6) Enforcement carry out by DOSH: a) Approval & Authorisation, b) Registration, c) Certification, d) Inspection, e) Investigation, f) Litigation DOSH function/ service:
