6 402 MXW 2010 Job Opportunities 6 Why Implement An Apprentice Program Apprentice Programs Were Successful In Late 80s And Early 90s Program Length Varied 2-3 Years Based On Program Requirements And Allowed Time To Sufficiently Train Mechanics Full-Time To Required Proficiency Levels Can Increase Candidate Pool By Hiring Trained and Experienced Candidates With Technical Certificates And/Or Those With Comparable Skills That Do Not Currently Meet 100% Of The Requirements For Hiring As “Work Ready” Mechanics Complements Co-Op Program How Will We Implement Hire External Candidates At WG-5 Helper Level And Train To WG-10 In 2-Year Programs Two Programs Established – Sheet Metal And Aircraft Mechanics

7 402 MXW 2010 Job Opportunities 7 Sheet Metal Mechanic WG-05 Target WG-10 (2-Year Program) Training Focus 1 st Year Basic Sheet Metal Processes & Aircraft Familiarization 2 nd Year Aircraft Specific Sheet Metal Processes Selection Criteria: Candidates must meet one of the following standards: Technical Certificate from an accredited institution in skills such as Aircraft Structural Technology, Machine Tool Technology, Welding and Joining or Automotive Collision Technology Industrial sheet metal experience or other related skills working with metals such as machining, welding/joining, toolmaking, automotive collision repair, metal forming machine operating, fabrication, and patternmaking.
